[HDH] Father and Mother Moon said what?!

This is a collection of some of the words Father and Mother Moon spoke on the subject of Ocean Providence! Use this as HDH, inspiration, have an especially interesting reading with friends and family, etc 🌊🌊🌊

“My hope for you tonight is that you can inherit my spirit and the purpose and goal which I have told you about.

Then, you must apply that in your daily life. At the end of ten, twenty years you must become successful.

Then, in thirty, forty years from now, after I've gone to spirit world, you can say, ‘I remember that day forty years ago in Morning Garden when Father spoke to me and that is why I have become so successful today.’

I am hoping and praying that many of you will become the person I've just described.”

(God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 12, July 3rd, 1986)

True Parents' Heart and Spirit

Topic 1

Heart of True Parents for Humanity

(Editor’s Notes: Why did True Parents of Humanity use their precious time to fish, even sacrificing the time to be with their own children? It was because they needed to love the starving people of the world before they loved their own children.)

“Think about my heart”

“I now stand in Abel's position. I started alone, so I had to create the foundation on the individual level and work up to the worldwide level. I couldn't think of my own family. Abel cannot think of his own family. He has to go to Cain and Cain's family, and to the entire world of Cain. Then after that, he can go to his own family. This has been my situation all throughout my life.

Think about my heart. There is so much pain. The worst persecution comes from those closest to the heart. My own family wanted me to be concerned for them, but I could never once think of them first. This caused incredible pain for them. This has been my course. Sometimes, I even have to hear the cries of my own children, but I can't take the time with them that they need. My time is for others instead.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 3,  8/28/1982, Provincetown)

“I have to turn my eyes down into the deepest hell”

“The problems of the world aren't so important to you. There are situations today in some countries where millions and millions of people are starving. Can you understand that? No, you cannot understand that. What I have to do is connect the better side of this world to the spiritual world.

And then, I have to turn my eyes down into the deepest hell and I have to pay attention to the most miserable situations. I have to solve that whole thing.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 11, August 1985)

“Even if it means offering my own flesh and blood”

“Around the world, 20 million people die of starvation each year. How can we save them from dying? I do not go fishing for fun. When I fish, I gaze at the ocean and think about those 20 million people who live across that great ocean.

I have to open the way to save them even if it means offering my own flesh and blood. No one is thinking about this problem. Fishing is my strategy to make others not forget about them. That is why I am trying to catch a lot of fish from the ocean and distribute them. Without the ocean, there is no way to save starving people.” (Cham Bumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 278-319, 1996/06/23)

“As the True Parent”

“Why am I doing all this? It is because, as the True Parent, I want to take responsibility for those suffering from hunger. My heart is not to give up on anyone in the world. They are all our brothers and sisters.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10 Chapter 2 Section 3, 253-109, 1994/01/09)

“Every year, 20 million people die of starvation. That is 60,000 people a day. Is the President of the United States going to take responsibility for that? Will Gorbachev of the Soviet Union take responsibility? Who will take responsibility for this?Who in the world is going to do that? The True Parents and the siblings of the True Parents have to take responsibility for it. For this reason, all our work with the sea is something I have been planning and preparing for, over the last twenty years.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 217-314, 1991.6.12)

“We are the True Parents, who came to the earth to save all humanity. All people are our children. How can we not be concerned about those who are starving to death? The reason I am engaged in ocean enterprises is that through them we can save those people.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10 Chapter 2, 218-084, 1991/07/02)

“It is the most precious work”

“My paternal great-grandfather worked the farm himself, produced thousands of bushels of rice, and built the family fortune with his own hands. He never smoked or drank liquor, preferring instead to use that money to buy food to give to those in need. When he died, his last words were, ‘If you feed people from all the regions of Korea, then you will receive blessings from all those regions.’”  (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 1)

“By the time I was born and was growing up, much of the wealth that my great-grandfather had accumulated was gone, and our family had just enough to get by. The family tradition of feeding others was still alive, however, and we would feed others even if it meant there wouldn’t be enough to feed our family members. The first thing I learned after I learned to walk was how to serve food to others.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 1)

“Perhaps because I was born into such a family, I too have spent much of my life feeding people. To me, giving people food is the most precious work. When I am eating and I see someone who has nothing to eat, it pains my heart and I cannot continue eating.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 1)

“The most pressing problem”

“When I look at the world situation, I feel that securing sufficient food supplies is the most pressing problem. Solving the food crisis cannot be put off for even a moment. Even now, some twenty thousand people around the world die of hunger-related causes every day. We cannot afford to be apathetic just because we and our immediate families are not facing hunger.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“The important point is concern for our neighbors. We first need to develop the heart that, when we are eating enough to fill our own stomachs, we think of others who are going hungry and consider how we can help them. True peace will not come as long as humanity does not solve the problem of hunger. If the person next to me is about to die of hunger, peace is a mere luxury.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 7)

“The future economy of the world, the food problem of the world, the survival of mankind will be solved by the ocean. This time of study can determine the future life or death of mankind.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 14, June 27, 1983)

Lonely Heart of True Parents

(Editor’s Notes: Although True Parents sacrificed so much for ocean providence, most members ran away. These Words were selected to show the disappointments of True Parents after many failures. Who will know and console the lonely heart of True Parents?)

“Many members did not like the sea”

“Cheon Seung Ho (天勝号) was an exceptional boat. It sailed throughout the Yellow Sea and caught many fish. The reaction of many, though, was that we had enough to do on land and that there was no need for us to be going out onto the ocean and catching fish. I sensed, however, that the world was about to enter an oceanic era. The launching of Cheon Seung Ho was a small, but precious, first step in opening that era.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 4)

“The Boat of Heavenly Victory (天勝号) was made in 1963. But Eu Hyo-young did not like boats, water, or the waves. When a storm comes, you should be able to enjoy riding waves the size of houses in the sea. He should have become a man who could find value in what he was doing, even if he were to die. But he said that he was afraid and that he did not like the sea. If we had advanced to Alaska from that time, we could rapidly have developed worldwide.” (Pacific Rim Providence Chapter 1, 291-276, 1998.3.17)

“In 1963, we built a boat and called it Cheon Seung Ho. It means ‘heaven’s victory.’ I named it that to signify my determination that God's Will be done. After building the Cheon Seung Ho, I talked about becoming a power in the oceans of the world.

Many members did not like riding on the boat. They would say, ‘We cannot go out today. The waves are too high.’ But can a true fisherman back down like that? Until life is gone from his body, a fisherman must go out regardless. I became a true fisherman. I paid no attention to rain or snow; I fished in heavy downpours. I would fish until evening even when it rained.” (Chambumo Gyeong Chapter 2 Section 1, 294-177, 1998/06/14)

“Many members ran away from the ocean”

“The name of our ship was New Hope, and it was well known for being able to catch many fish. I took that boat out myself and caught tuna. People were often afraid of getting on boats. When I suggested to young people that they get on a boat, their first reaction was often one of fear. ‘I get seasick,’ I often heard them say. ‘All I have to do is get on a boat, and I start getting woozy and feel like I’m going to die.’ So I got on the boat myself first.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 4)

“Already I have seen many members run away from the ocean. This season we can only catch one tuna per week. Many people thought we wouldn't come. Anyway, we came and many people were shocked. They were certain that I wouldn't come, but our reason for fishing is not just economic. We have to fish, we have to continue on. We have to set the tradition.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 3, August 28th, 1982)

“I was deeply disappointed”

“We should have built 300 boats for this purpose, but you were not ready to receive them. You even didn't want ten boats in your centers; you said, ‘Oh Father, we only need one boat. Don't send us any more boats.’ I was deeply disappointed.

Where did this disillusionment come from? You should have more hope than any other church project. You lost your hope because you didn't follow instructions.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 8, February 8th, 1984)

“I know that in the future sometime, in each of the fifty states, even if they have to sell their capitol building in order to buy one of these boats, they will do that. But now, some Unification members feel like they don't even want to look at those boats, that they want to run away from their boat. I see that kind of thing. My goal and desire and hope is built into this boat, but the young American members don't understand this and sometimes, they try to run away from this boat.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 12, July 3rd, 1986  Morning Garden)

“They do not understand why I am doing it”

“Although I am almost 80 years old, I still make time to go fishing, even in rain or snow. All the church leaders try to run away, making excuses and doing whatever they can to prevent me from going fishing. They do that because they do not understand why I am doing it.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10 Chapter 2,  278-319, 1996/06/23)

Heart of Not Giving Up

“I cannot give up”

“If you read the speech from when I began Ocean Church, you will see how serious and how important that message was. However, even after I gave that kind of explanation, many of them since that time went away from this Ocean Church activity. It's a shame, but I cannot give up.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 12, July 3rd 1986)

“Do you really want to be here? I don't believe you, yet. You will have to show me. I have watched so many American members leave and run away from this Ocean Church activity, even though there might have been good reason for some to go. I stood by and just watched their coming and going. In the meantime, I never changed my goal and my spirit for this Ocean Church endeavor. Why? Simply because I know the value of it.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 12, July 3rd 1986)

“This is the kind of spirit we must have, saying, ‘Until I have finally closed my eyes, no one will open my fist. I will grab this way as strong as I can and never let go.’” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 12, July 3rd 1986)

“I had to convince the members”

“Many Americans like that kind of seafood and I knew that, so I pioneered and developed every aspect by myself. Then, I had to convince the members. I watched many of them escape from Ocean Church during these past five years, but I kept going.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 11,    August 1985)

“How much time and effort did I invest?”

“I saw that the key to future food problems lies in the ocean and have endeavored to develop a wide range of oceanic businesses from nothing. I spent more time in the ocean than anyone else, thinking on the ocean, praying on the ocean, and struggled on the ocean. How much time and effort did I invest? You cannot imagine it.” (The Unification Church and The Land and The Sea, June 1st, 1991)

“This is the only way I have lived my life and I can never leave this way of life, even though so many people have left it while working with me. This is the only way of life for you and you will never regret it when you look back in history. Everyone in the spiritual world knows that this way is the righteous way, the only way.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 11, August 1985)

“I am absolutely determined to succeed”

“You have to go out to the ocean. That is your role and mission. If you Americans fail then I may ask the Japanese or Koreans or even the blessed children to accomplish the mission. I am absolutely determined to succeed.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 8, February 8th, 1984)

Heart of Hope and Entrustment

“Will someone continue it?”

“Since I continue living this kind of life, some people may think I go out to the ocean because I like it. Sometimes I feel, ‘What is there to like about the ocean?’ Yet still I go, and everyone should be like me.

I may not go out to sea now as much as I used to, but before I die I must pass this spirit on to others. If I die without passing it on, everything will come to a halt. If I pass it on to someone, will he or she continue it?” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 294-177, 1998/06/14)

“I am determined that my course, which started from suffering, will end in success. That same situation must hold for you as well. If I decide something like that, can you go a different course?

This is the tradition of True Parents and I am leaving it behind for you and you should tread this way, all the way, until the last of the world is saved. You cannot go any other way until this is accomplished.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 11, August 1985)

“The only hope of Unification Church for the future”

“Just put my ideas into action and you will find the success I am talking about. The only hope that Unification Church has for the future lies in Ocean Church. Don't you see how serious your position is? What is the limit of the future of those who go to the ocean? I can say with complete confidence, ‘there is no limit.’” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 6, July 3rd, 1983)

“WE have to help those people!”

“So all Unification Church members, will you buy a boat for your family? What if you have no money? For years to come, you can skip one meal and set money aside to get one boat. I foresaw this happening and have already prepared for this. Father skipped lunch every day when I was young and yet had the most energy. I did this for seven years.

I made the foundation, all we have to do is just follow it. We cannot say no; there is no reason. For whom will we do this? For our own sake, or to please Father? More than that, for the sake of humans starving to death all over the world. We have to help those people! That is our mission.” (The Day of All Things and the Fruits of Love 6/12/1991 Belvedere Training Center, NY)

“Only I am left at the end”

“I started Ocean Church Providence 20 years ago, but only I am left at the end. Everyone threw it out on the way and disappeared somewhere.

The next 20 years will be your time. Are you all ready to go this way? If you want to do it, raise both hands and swear before God. May God bless you.” (Development of the Oceanic Realm 20th Anniversary Speech, August 1st, 1994 Belvedere Training center, NY)

“Even if I were to die”

“I go out to sea with such passion, and problems would arise if I lost that passion. That heart must be maintained. Devotion must last for tens of thousands of years. Indemnity conditions would not be established if I offered devotion in comfort. So instead, I should be going so out upon the ocean.

Today must be better than yesterday, and tomorrow must be better than today. The waters from the lakes gather in the Atlantic Ocean, and it in turn flows into the Pacific Ocean. If I continue offering devotion until the day I save all those people who are starving to death, I believe that the will of God will be established on the earth, even if I were to die.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 279-308, 1996.9.22)

“You are my hope”

“This has to be done. For the future, someone has to do it. You are my hope. If you don't know that, you cannot understand even who you are. The one who is close to me is the one who will determine to be successful on the ocean.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 6, July 3rd, 1983)

REFLECTION

Recommended reflection: (1) Why did True Parents have to continue to fish even sacrificing the time with their own family? (2) Think about why True Father did not give up.

Topic 2

Inheriting True Parents’ Spirit of Ocean

(Editor’s Notes: True Father taught the members four spirits of ocean providence: (1) Gloucester Spirit, (2) Hudson Spirit, (3) Alaska Spirit, and (4) Pantanal Spirit.)

“The greatest way of life”

“We are not living for the sake of today, but for the sake of the future. I am determined that my course, which started from suffering, will end in success. That same situation must hold for you as well. If I decide something like that, can you go a different course? This is the tradition of True Parents and I am leaving it behind for you and you should tread this way, all the way, until the last of the world is saved. You cannot go any other way until this is accomplished. We call this the greatest way of life and actually, for you, it is the greatest way of life.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 11, August 1985)

Gloucester Spirit - Giving Everything with Gratitude

“I have become a legend in the Gloucester area; the newspaper there wrote several articles about our fishing and we have been a topic of conversation for the whole town. Hundreds of boats come every year from all over to fish in that particular area. When the New Hope went out to sea and dropped anchor, many other boats would follow and anchor in the vicinity. When we had a tuna strike, other fishermen would bring out their binoculars to watch what I was doing. At first, the negative people would want the tuna to break loose and escape, but after a few days of successful catches, they began to change their thinking and the rumor began that I have something good working for me.

I was always the first one out to sea. Some of the seasoned professional fishermen would go out early to outdo me, but no matter how early they got out, the New Hope was already there. The fishermen were not inspired by this, but when they tried to compete with me, they had to work so hard that they had no time for their usual drinking or laziness. By the end of the summer a rumor was going around that declining town that I was the only one who could save Gloucester.

Without any exception, I got up every day at 3:00 a.m. The New Hope went out in the moonlight and in many cases returned home with the stars and moon shining. Do you like to get up early in the morning? The staff members working on the boat were never told what time to get up, but since I arose at three o'clock every morning, they followed me, no matter how sleepy they were.

This has been my tradition for four years in America. It is not easy to follow me because no one can outwork me. My crew knows what I would do, and if I tell them to be out by 1:30 a.m. on the Atlantic, they get up and go out with no grumbling. I have even set the tradition of staying out and working all night.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 14, September 11th, 1977)

“The parent is always the one who works later, works harder and begins earlier. It is the parent's heart which wants the children to rest while the parent wants to do more and prepare for the next thing. The parental heart always wants to take care and watch over everything until the last moment. You thought that you were getting up early, but I tell you, before you got up, God was already there ahead of you. When you realize that God is always one step ahead of you, you cannot get tired. You cannot just give up. You always feel, ‘I want to comfort God,’ but God is already there giving you comfort. With this understanding you just want to make every effort to alleviate God's heart. With this kind of heart and mind, you will march forward and you will never fail.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 13, August 28th, 1986)

“You have to select the route where Satan cannot go. It must be so extreme that Satan will say, ‘Oh no, I could never go that way. You go without me.’ That is the course you must select. There, God alone will be waiting. And you solely will have the opportunity to meet with God.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 13, August 28th, 1986)

“This is a new chapter, a new era, a new history. You are the master of this new history. In order to do that, you must have determination. Without that determination, you will not even get near it. With the determination to give up your life, you can separate yourself from Satan; Satan will have no business with you anymore. Don't try to survive. Go to the land of death. That means that God will take your sacrifice, and God will never let you die. That is the Principle. That is my life exactly! I have always been ready to die. This tradition goes down from me to you, from you to all others. As long as you are alive, as long as you are breathing, you cannot complain because you have already made that resolution; you are ready to die, but you have not died yet. You can say, ‘I am still alive! I have to go on, more and more. I am not yet dying, that means I can still go further. Thank God!’

My leg is not just muscle, it is always swollen for some reason. Even with the overuse of my legs from standing on the deck so long, I say, ‘Thank God! I have not yet died; I am still breathing. God, I can go on.’ One night there was an accident and I collapsed in the bathroom. Mother does not know, but I fainted. I got up and the first words I spoke were, ‘Thank God, I have not died. I can go on and on and on.’ That is the kind of tradition I laid in the Unification Church. How can we complain? If we disregard this tradition, America will become a very dismal and tragic country. When you inherit this tradition, America will be glorious and prosperous. Everlasting blessings will come if you inherit this.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 14, June 27, 1983)

Hudson Spirit - Continuing Under Difficult Situation

“Last night after graduation at the seminary, I took all the leaders fishing. It was in the midst of a thunderstorm and we were cramped in a little boat. Even though they didn't say this, inside they were probably thinking, ‘What kind of father are you? Can't you have even one day to rest?’” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 14, July 1st, 1979)

“We need guts. We must stand tall and say, ‘No matter how fierce the wind blows, no matter how much the storm comes, I will stand here and never stop.’ Several years ago, there was a storm warning in Gloucester and the radio announcer told everyone to stay at home. Then, at 1:00 a.m., I said, ‘Let's go.’ The wind was blowing so hard that everyone knew the danger involved. In spite of that, I said, ‘March.’ And out into that storm we went.

I like that kind of man. Any kind of woman likes that kind of man. How about you? Do you like that kind of man? Or, do you just like a disco dancing man? What kind of man are you? Are you a Reverend Moon style of man? I am a very tough man. At the same time, I must follow the spiritual direction. Do you know what I mean? This is the kind of spirit we must have, saying, ‘Until I have finally closed my eyes, no one will open my fist. I will grab this way as strong as I can and never let go.’” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 12, July 3rd, 1986)

“When I asked the staff to find out the weather forecast for the day, they wrote down the wind speed but not whether it would rain. When I asked them why they did not note the rain, they replied that there was no point, because over the years no matter how many times they wrote that rain was in the forecast, it never once affected what we did.

I made a tradition of fishing regardless of the rain. My thinking was, ‘If it's going to rain, bring it on!’ Rain is not a problem when in a boat on the water, but heavy winds can be. Yet, to me even the wind is the same. Whenever a storm is forecast, the big boats do not go out, but our small boats still do. I say, ‘Let's go out!’ After doing this for about a week, people get addicted to catching fish. Once they taste the feeling of it, they cannot bear not doing it. This is how appealing it is.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 236-030, 1992/11/02)

“People tend to think about going out fishing on a boat when the weather is clear and they feel good. That is what ordinary people do. But in order to become a special person, you need to fish amid sudden downpours and lightning storms. Unless you fish in the driving rain and study how the torrent changes the water and affects the fish, you will not know how changes in the natural environment affect your fishing.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 276-071, 1996/02/04)

Alaska Spirit - Absolutely Completing the Mission

“You do not go to the sea only to fish. The spirit of Alaska is the spirit of salmon. Salmon always return to the homeland that they left, swimming four or five thousand miles across the ocean to spawn. This is the same principle when looking at the path of restoration of humankind. You must know how to go back; no matter how long a journey you have taken away from your hometown. There is no other fishing more exciting than salmon fishing. They are so strong. When other fish are hooked, it only takes a couple of turns on the reel before you see the fish on the surface, but with salmon, it takes tens of turns on the reel. It is difficult, like trying to catch a person who has heavenly tradition. The salmon jump until they die, till the very end. The fish hook usually falls out after they jump about three times. That is the tradition of Alaska. The ocean symbolizes the world of death, the satanic world, and the fish symbolize the people. The boldest of all fish are the salmon.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 2, 236-124, 1992.11.4)

“Have you heard about the ‘Alaskan spirit’? What is the Alaskan spirit? It is getting up at five in the morning, eating breakfast, going out to the sea, and coming back at twelve at night or even one or two in the morning. You are not allowed to come back if you don’t fulfill your portion of responsibility. There are no allowances for any situation. You have to fulfill your responsibility during the training course. Therefore, you are not going to watch people catch fish. I train people to fish to make them into leaders who, in the future, can go anywhere in the world. Not just anyone can catch fish. It must be done professionally. You can catch fish only after learning the skills through having many experiences.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 263-10, 1994.8.16)

Pantanal Spirit - Unity, Forgiveness, & Cooperation

“The Pantanal is a world of relations, based on swallowing the other as a whole. Pantanal means, ‘selling yourself completely.’ It does not matter if it is for some larger purpose. Therefore, the Pantanal spirit is in swallowing both the good and the bad and digesting it to exert influence for one’s survival as one grows. Wasn’t God’s will also to swallow both the satanic world and the world of goodness?” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 296-305, 1998.11.18)

“You should go to the Pantanal and ‘Swallow everything as a whole! Swallow everything as a whole!’ You should go to the world of fish and swallow it as a whole. That is why I am teaching you how to swallow things as a whole in these lands. You should not become like the weak that cannot swallow their clan, family, ancestors and relatives as a whole. You have to become the strong.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 295-237, 1998.8.28)

“There are 3,600 species of fish living in the Pantanal. That is 3,600 kinds of fish! And they all eat something different. All these fish are mixed together in the water and are tirelessly cleaning it up. You should realize that the act of eating is their cleaning work.

All these fish do not exist for their own sake, but to bring order to the environment – to clean their surroundings as they live, helping one another. This constitutes a natural cooperative system. They are purifying the ocean water. The ocean should not just be salty. There should be fish that can eat the filthy things. What would we do with fish excrement? There are creatures that eat only dung.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 293-283, 1998.6.7)

“In the future, Salobra, the Pantanal and Jardim, where I made the proclamations that united the spiritual world and the physical world, will become scenic destinations for tourists from around the world. They are places where the water and the land meet. This is where we are determining all matters related to water and land, as a basis for continuing on our path.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 293-272, 1998/06/02)

“Pristine water that flows in the mainstream cannot avoid polluted water filled with filth and say, ‘I don’t want to mix with you!’ That is how it is in nature. The harmonious and overall relationships in nature are mysterious. When there is something dirty, water will embrace it, even if it spoils the pure water’s essence. Water will absorb and assimilate the things around it; and as the water continues to flow, the dirty things sink while the clean things rise to the surface. The water becomes pure as it flows through the ocean. The flow of history is like that as well.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 218-292, 1991.8.22)

“I love water. Water is the source of all life. Water embraces and absorbs everything. There are two rivers in Jardim: the Miranda River and Plata River, which are like yang and yin. The water in the Plata River is clear, whereas the water in the Miranda River is muddy. Usually, people run away when there is muddy water, but yesterday I saw a clear stream of water being drawn into a whirlpool, without any resistance. With dignity, the clear water joined the muddy water and changed its color. Yet as the days go by, the water gains the strength to regain its color and purify itself as it continues flowing.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 276-140, 1996.2.18)

True Parents’ Goals

Topic 3

True Parents’ Dream of Peace

(Editor’s Notes: True Parents had sacrificed their lives and their family members in order to bring about substantial peace on earth and in heaven. This is a collection of True Father’s Words connected to the goals of world peace and in relation to the global food problem.)

“Just one thought”

I have lived my life with just one thought. I wanted to bring about a world of peace, a world where there are no wars and where all humankind lives in love.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 1, first sentence)

“If nationalities and religions continue maliciously to attack each other, humanity has no future. There will be an endless cycle of terror and warfare until one day we become extinct. But we are not without hope. Clearly there is hope. I have lived my life without ever letting go of that hope and always kept alive the dream of peace.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 1)

“What I want is to wipe away completely the walls and fences that divide the world in myriad ways and to create a world of unity. I want to tear down the walls between religions and between races and fill in the gap between the rich and the poor.

Once that is done, we can re-establish the world of peace that God created in the beginning. I am talking about a world where no one goes hungry and no one sheds tears.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 1)

“We cannot build a world of peace without...”

“The issue of food will present humankind with a very serious crisis in the future. We cannot build a world of peace without first resolving the food issue. Sufficient food supplies for all the world’s population cannot be produced on the limited amount of land area that is currently available. We must look to the oceans for a solution. The oceans hold the key to solving the food crisis of the future. This is the reason I have been pioneering the oceans for the past several decades.” (As a Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“To secure adequate supplies of food at a low cost, humankind will need to develop the ocean. This and the great grasslands that are still in their prehistoric state are our final storehouses of wealth. This task, though, will not be easy. It will require us to go to places that are so hot and humid that moving around and working hard with a strong sense of dedication become very difficult. Developing the grasslands in tropical regions cannot be done without a love for humankind that is passionate and dedicated. Jardim, in Brazil, is just such a place.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

The Future of Humanity is in the Ocean

“The resources for humanity’s future are buried in the sea”

“In the future, we will have to prepare a world-wide foundation. This is what I am thinking about: more than two thirds of the Earth’s surface, more than 70 percent is ocean. What would we do if our land-based food resources diminish? We will have to turn to the oceans and catch our food there. We really will have no choice but to come up with a solution for human survival depending on the sea.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 88-179, 1976.8.10)

“The resources for humanity’s future are buried in the sea. The resources found on the land’s surface are reaching their limits and cannot last for long. They will be exhausted in a few short years. The challenge becomes how to recover the resources hidden away in the oceans. In the future, humanity must research the development of the tundra plains. It is this future world where my interest currently lies. The food resources on land will not last for more than fifty years. In a few decades, this reality will rise up and hit us in the face. We must prepare for that time. This is the reason I place such an emphasis on our projects in Alaska.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 236-22, 1992.11.2)

“In the United States I am running world-level fishing enterprises. Our fishing boat factory is one of the most famous in the United States. From this point on, the time when humanity relies on the land-based resources will pass. A new era is coming when taking a leading position in the world will require having a leading position in the management of the world’s oceanic resources, through possession of the technology required to do so. The sea is a fundamental source of limitless raw materials. In the future, the era of just catching fish for food will also pass. We have to develop ocean agriculture and ocean farming.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 126-201, 1983.4.19)

“I have been interested in the ocean my entire life. That is because the fortune of the great ocean is coming. For this reason, you should also take an interest in the ocean. After that, you should be interested in the continents.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 12-117, 1962)

“The marine products industry has bright prospects. I have a clear concept about this endeavor. That is why I am declaring to humankind to go to the ocean for their sake.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 128-211, 1983.6.26)

“You would never think that this dark-faced man who looks like a fisherman from the Hudson River, someone who might disappear after a thousand years, would possibly be doing these great things? Why am I doing this? It is to liberate the twenty million people who are starving to death. Do not forget about the sweat you shed at the Hudson River. There is something that breathes and thinks throughout the five great oceans and six continents. It is invisible, like voice waves or electric waves. That something can lead to the path of liberation for future humanity through the fish world living in that place. As long as there is land and the ocean, people will not starve. With my teachings, I can save the people who are starving to death.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 247-21, 1993.4.21)

The future base of operation for Unification Church is...

“The future leaders of the world must understand how to keep and preserve the oceans. The time is coming when humankind will invest and devote all its power, cultural identity, traditions, and national resources into developing the riches and treasures that lie at the bottom of the sea.

However, the key point is who will be in a commanding position in the ocean areas to pursue that development. When I am faced with this problem, I ask myself, as the founder of the Unification Church and True Parent responsible for human history, what base of operations am I going to leave for the future of the Unification Church? That base will not be in urban areas, but at the coast. I am doing things in coastal areas that no one else has even thought of doing.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 220-11, 1991.10.13)

“In the future, if someone is committed to developing the ocean, then that person can be in a commanding position, globally speaking. Water is the most important thing. That is why, before going to the spirit world, I have to initiate a project to utilize large areas of water. Accordingly, I have to diligently give many directions. If I speak on this subject, I know that future generations will make it happen.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 276-296, 1996.3.10)

The Fastest Way to Unification

“This is the fastest way”

“We have to make this foundation for the entire world. This is the fastest way to bring people and nations together. I am always thinking how this can be done and that is why I am making a foundation on the ocean. When we make this foundation, our direction towards the future will be straight.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 11, August 1985)

“I believe this will be a shortcut to guiding all people toward a world of peace. That is why for several decades I have been researching, planning and pioneering all sorts of ocean-related businesses.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 252-210, 1993/12/30)

“The oceans can become a central point for bringing the world together.”  (As a Peace-loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“I am preparing for the future world. I am not doing this just because I love the ocean. It is difficult being at sea. In the beginning, when I came back after a week, my entire body was in pain. Still I thought, ‘There is so much to do. I should go on without complaining about my age. I should be like a colt going over the Himalayas.’ How could I rest?

Do you know why I am so interested in the ocean? It is because the ocean is the key to opening the path of peace for humanity in the future.”  (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 189-295, 1989.6.17)

“With this, the entire world can find hope”

“What if the fish powder that we supply them saves the lives of the many refugees around the world and manages to solve the food shortage problem? When that happens, I am sure that a large portion of humanity will work together with us.

Then True Parents' legacy will remain forever, even if the earth sinks under the sea and the heavens collapse. By so doing, I want the descendants of today's Unification Church members to be able to praise and glorify God with confidence. They will see the people of the world making pilgrimages to Jardim and appreciating it as the foundation of the great achievements we have made and particularly of our efforts to save humanity by fish farming.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 277-143, 1996/04/07)

“The time has arrived when we can go to the oceans near the South Pole, catch krill, and utilize it to solve the world's food shortage. This will make a real impact on humanity. That is why two-thirds of the people of the world are keeping an eye on our oceanic enterprises.

With the teachings of the Unification Church and the Ocean Providence, our church members are making comprehensive preparations to solve the world's food shortage. With this, the entire world can find hope. We are past the daybreak; now the time has come when the sun of hope is rising and no one can stop it.” (ChambumoGyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 339-110, 2000/12/07)

“Do you want to shorten or extend the providence of restoration?”

“Do you want to shorten or extend the providence of restoration? Do you want to spend hundreds or thousands of years? Do you want to achieve it in decades? ("I want to shorten it.") Do you really think so? Then you have to be taught how I would do it.

We have to hurry. So how do you do it? Christianity has enthusiastically evangelized for 2,000 years, bringing the Christian population to a billion. Everyone admits that it is now impossible to save the world with Christianity.

Only 15 percent of the world's five billion people live comfortably, while the rest are putting all of their energy into just getting by. Even if one billion are Christians, the remaining four billion are not interested in Christianity. If it takes 2,000 years to evangelize a billion people, how many years will it take to evangelize five billion people?

What do they feel when four billion people who trying to survive hear that ‘Reverend Moon has been struggling to prepare for them for 20 years and brought food to them’? Will they welcome you when they know that they have been saved from hunger by you and Reverend Moon?

…It is clear, right? They will want to stay in the Unification Church all the time. In a short period of time, while the world looks on in blank amazement, billions of people will enroll in the Unification Church.” (Development of the Oceanic Realm, Belvedere, August 1, 1994)

The Unification Church must become the Black Current

“No matter how large the river is, it flows to the ocean, and no matter how vast the ocean is, it follows the Black Current. Do you know what the Black Current is? The Black Current is a strong current of water that follows a four thousand mile path in the Pacific Ocean. Because of this powerful current, all the water currents in the five great oceans are alive and on the move. Only water that rides this current and circulates is qualified to become seawater. It is the same with human life.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 220-201, 1991.10.19)

“The Black Current passes across four thousand miles based in the Pacific Ocean. It circulates over four thousand miles in one year and the force of its passage makes the five great oceans circulate. Were it not for this primal Black Current, the oceans would not be in motion. The Atlantic and Pacific are linked to the five great oceans because of the Black Current.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 227-129, 1992.2.11)

“The Unification Church must become the main stream of the world and resemble the Black Current in the Pacific Ocean. The circulation of the Black Current through four thousand miles in the Pacific enables the waters in the five great oceans to circulate. To generate the life energy of the world from the universe, a source must be created that can turn and move the deepest of places. Through this, we must purify the tarnished world.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 275-32, 1995.10.30)

True Parents’ Plans

True Parents’ Plans to Solve the Food Problem

(Editor’s Notes: This is a collection of Words that explains how True Parents planned to resolve the food problem of humanity. First, True Father spent many years training Himself on the ocean, and then He trained all the members by fishing. Lastly, He invested in myriads of businesses in order to create a global network of food production, food distribution, and education.)

“I thought about hundreds of years to come”

“While I was in the boat waiting for the tuna to come, I thought over and over again of the providence in America and planned what to do. I thought about the problem of world hunger and planned what to do step by step.

I didn't just think one or two years ahead, not like that. Instead, I thought about hundreds of years to come and what to do to prepare for that. I thought about how to farm the tuna and how it could be nurtured and used for millions of pounds of nutritional food in the future. I thought like that all the time. There is nothing that I didn't think of in the long hours while I was waiting for the tuna to come.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 10, July 5th, 1984)

“Laying the foundation to solve future physical problems”

“I am the founder of this gigantic spiritual movement, but I am also laying the foundation to solve future physical problems of the world. I know that all this is basic for future food production and solving hunger in the world.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 1, July 13, 1980)

“I am so enthusiastic and have so many plans about the ocean, anyone who comes to the Unification Church cannot help but pay attention to the ocean.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 1, July 13, 1980)

“The primary resources in the sea are unlimited. One fish lays millions of individual eggs. Normally these eggs are eaten up by other fish and creatures in the sea. If they were protected under human control, the supply of these resources would be unlimited and always available. Also, it is now possible to connect even the mountains with the sea by piping systems, and there, above our cities, make high-elevation tanks where unlimited numbers of fish can be raised. The way I see it, this is the only viable way that humankind will be able to solve the food supply problem. That is why I have invested two billion dollars over the last 20 years to develop this area.”  (Pacific Rim Providence Chapter 1, 228-218, 1992.4.3)

“Two fundamental and concrete methods”

Simply distributing food supplies by itself will not resolve hunger, though. A more fundamental approach to the problem is needed. I am considering two fundamental and concrete methods.

The first is to provide ample supplies of food at low cost, and the second is to share technology that people can use to overcome hunger on their own. (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7 “Solution to Poverty and Hunger”)

“My financial foundation is for …”

“I look at the vast ocean resources as God's blessing waiting for the Unification Church. I have promised to God, ‘Give me twenty years' time and we will conquer the sea, taking dominion over it and returning the glory to You.’ That is how I think every time I go out. Later, we will establish a great foundation, and even the Ford or Rockefeller Foundations will look like peanuts in comparison.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 14, June th, 1977)

“My purpose of doing business and making money is to perform the role of bonding all the people of the world, whether rich or poor. My financial foundation is for sharing technology with those in poverty for the liberation of all humankind. This is the equalization that I am trying to realize.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 225-291, 1992/01/26)

“A large part of the economy in the future will come from the ocean.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 3,  August 28th, 1982)

“Shortcut to guiding all people towards a world of peace”

“I will create a global organization that will bring together people from all walks of life, including those in the financial field, based on their shared love of recreational activities. I believe this will be a shortcut to guiding all people toward a world of peace. That is why for several decades I have been researching, planning and pioneering all sorts of ocean-related businesses.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2,  252-210, 1993/12/30)

“I am going to nurture the ocean in accordance with the original intention of the Creator, and make it the center stage for bringing the world together.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 128-249, 1983.8.28)

20 Years of Plan & Preparation

(Editor’s Notes: True Parents started the ocean providence in the United States on August 1st, 1974, where a 20-year plan to develop a foundation was proclaimed. True Father said that this 20-year foundation was a preparation to save the poor nations starting from those in South America. After 20 years, in 1995, True Father started the South America providence from the Sao Paulo Declaration.)

“I have made a foundation”

“You should have good business sense. You should be able to save the twenty million lives that die each year. You should make sure that people do not die of hunger by teaching them how to farm the land, and how to breed fish in water. Why would they starve to death when their wives and children are able to fish? Why die when there is water and an abundance of fish? That is why we do fishing. You must teach them how to fish.

You must also teach them hunting. Many animals, such as alligators, are found there in abundance. Therefore, the Sightseeing and Hunting Association for World Peace is for the sake of bringing about a peaceful world. Why are we doing such work? For twenty years I have lost money, yet I have made a foundation. True Parents must be responsible for those people on earth who are dying of starvation. We cannot give up because all the people in the world are brothers and sisters.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 2, 253-109, 1994.1.9)

“Preparing for the oceanic civilization sphere in South America”

“The first forty years of my life until now was a time of tribulations, centering on the developed countries in the Northern Hemisphere, as well as centering on the land. That is why for twenty years I have been preparing for the oceanic civilization sphere in South America. I have been paving the way for the oceanic age to save all the countries within the tropical climate zone. That twenty-year course was to pave the path of tribulation.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 277-131, 1996.4.7)

“On the foundation of the Sao Paulo Declaration I will make a great move to the front line of South America. I have already announced that I am leaving North America, and will move to South America. I have downsized the organizations and agencies in North America, shifting the economic and human resources that were invested there to South America.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 268-131, 1995/03/31)

Purpose of Ocean Training

(Editor’s Notes: Fishing training has been a tradition created by True Parents. Since the beginning of the church in Korea, True Father trained the members in fishing. The members were trained in Yamok, Jeju, Cheong Pyeong, Gloucester, Kodiak, Jardim, Fuerte Olimpo, Punta del Este, Hawaii, Lake Mead, and Yeosu.)

“Young people should develop an interest in the ocean. Someone who can take responsibility for projects in the ocean must emerge among you who are here. The reason I go out to the Atlantic Ocean and stay there for twenty-four hours is to establish a tradition of having loved the ocean.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 73-142, 1974.8.16)

“That is why in the future we should become a leading force in the maritime industry. The time will come when you will concentrate your efforts upon the ocean more than the land. That is why I am taking an interest in the ocean, and that is why you should also take an interest in the ocean.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 73-142, 1974.8.16)

“Every member of the Unification Church is required to…”

“As you know, only one third of the surface of the globe is land; two thirds are ocean. Therefore, without knowing the ocean we can never have dominion over the entire globe. So every one of you, every member of the Unification Church, is required to take a basic training in Ocean Church, including navigation, repairing and so forth. In order for us to mold our God-centered character we must know how to deal with the ocean, how to become subject over it, and how to have dominion over God-given creation.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 14, August 26th, 1983)

“You are taking care of a boat. Go out and catch fish. Use the boat for evangelical programs and train the youth of the city. The boat can supply you with all you need.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 8, February 8th, 1984)

“All members of the Unification Church have to learn hunting and fishing. Why do you learn? This is to save those who starve to death. It is a capability that must be acquired for that purpose.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1, 1994)

Learn fishing and hunting and go to Africa for missions. You will go out to the whole world. Then what is the third thing that we should learn to save people? It's agriculture. The whites who came to colonize the Third World did not teach agricultural techniques. If we use the agricultural technology developed here (Texas, New Hope Farm) to educate 100,000 to 150,000 people and dispatch them to develop the Third World such as Africa, no one will starve to death in the world.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1, 1994)

“I will hold a fishing tournament, bring American women who will teach fishing to all of the local mothers. If you teach fishing to those mothers dying of hunger, they will not starve to death, no matter where they go. All they will need is water and land.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 2, 254-305, 1994.2.6)

Topic 5

Plan for a Global Distribution Network

(Editor’s Notes: The basic methods of True Parents to solve the global food problem were to create a global network of food production, food distribution, and education. True Parents wished to fill in the gap between poor and rich nations by creating a global maritime distribution network centering on blessed families around the world.)

“Establishing a relationship with the sea”

“The most important thing in establishing a relationship with the sea is the boat. If we build a boat, it must be built so that the boats that the Unification Church builds are recognized and more famous than those built by other companies, at the global standard, and as history goes by.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“I thought about how to lay the foundation for young people to feel without fear ‘I have to go out to the sea again today because I went out to the sea yesterday.’ At that time, the idea of building an unsinkable boat came to me. I wondered how to build a boat that wouldn't sink even if it was turned over, and wouldn't sink even in the swaying sea.

Floating the boat on the beach or in a river nearby that even children can easily steer around, and the children in the village get on the boat or dive under the boat and have fun playing, they naturally become interested in the sea.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Connect with the transport industry”

“The reason I focus so much on the marine industries is to use this marine industry's transportation technology in the future to reach any country and any undeveloped land. In order to save the poverty-stricken people of the African region, we will pioneer the paths through the straits and rivers to reach them deep in the undeveloped lands. Starving people in Africa die for lack of food, but the food is abundant elsewhere in the developed countries around the world.

Roads and other means of transportation are not well developed in the undeveloped parts of Africa. In these undeveloped lands, people are constantly looking for water and settling at water's edges and estuaries. We can make good use of our small boats to get into these shallow interiors of the waterways.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“We will build high-performance boats of various sizes in Alaska. Subsequent goals are to build transport ships that carry fish and goods. We will build a 6000-ton class ship so that you can carry whatever you need. As more and more fish are caught, transport ships will be needed and will naturally connect with the transport industry.

By the same theory, if we continue to increase the size of the transport ship, it will become an oil tanker that carries hundreds of thousands of tons of crude oil. If you want to run a world-level shipyard, you have to expand your facility so that you can build ships of any size.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Various industries develop from there, centering on manufacturing boats. In relation to the aquaculture industry, we will develop technology, deepen our relationship with the transportation industry, and gradually functionally connect with many manufacturing industries. In this way, we will create a relationship that controls the marine industry and open the way to control the land also.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Along with the importance of fishing, we must advance the transportation industry from now on. We must foster a transportation industry that connects Japan, across the North Sea, through the Bering Strait, and to the Americas.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

Creating a Global Network of Food Distribution

“A huge amount of food, called surplus products, sleeps in the warehouse every year. As you may know, in the 1980s, before I was imprisoned in Danbury, I bought more than 200 mobile home trailers, which are houses that move. I distributed them to each church, telling them to go around the country.

The reason for doing this was to use the trailers to go around the warehouses and transport various groceries such as canned foods and processed foods. In the United States, the surplus foods stored in warehouses can be taken by anyone who needs them.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“With the United States as the central nation and the representative of the world, the countries of the world must trade and form ties with the United States, in order to export or import. When a ship crosses the sea from all over the world and arrives at an American port, it becomes an empty ship and returns to its own country after unloading. When the vacant ship approaches a port somewhere, if our members living in the land cooperate to quickly load and unload and develop a transportation system that effectively uses the vacant space, they will succeed as transporter.

If the local government sees such a transportation network using ships, it will surely be interesting and come to help. This project has that much benefit. As we become leading companies in the marine industry and serve the world, nations around the world will support us.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Imagine the people of the world's developed nations getting to know, be inspired, and get excited as we use ships entering the harbor to distribute food to the villages of the world. All you have to do is go around the port cities all over the world, take a rest when you arrive, unload your cargo, and enter the local site.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Our company has developed an excellent freezing storage system. We can use it to expand our distribution and sales organization globally so that we can deliver any seafood to developing markets.

The key to dominating the market is to manage the rational distribution and sales system down to the town/village level and reduce the price. Then it will work anywhere in the world.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

Dominating the World Economy by Controlling the Local Markets

“Up to this point, the advanced nations that produce manufactured goods have dominated the world. Now however, the era in which production determines dominance has passed. Now any nation that wants to can produce manufactured goods.

Advancements in science and technology are equalizing the means of production. Now the issue is about supplying raw materials. We have gone beyond the era when the producer nations controlled the world. Now raw materials have become the crucial component in the process of production. With every nation trying to produce as much as possible, the lynchpin of the system is the supply of raw materials. That is why today we see that oil has become a serious issue.

Looking at the three main divisions of the economy -- production, raw materials and the market -- which nations do you think will assume authority over the economy? It will not be the producer nations or the nations with raw materials. In the future, the nations that control the markets will hold sway over the economy.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 207-062, 1990/11/01)

“In the future, who will be in control of the global economy? Not the nations that have the most raw materials. Not the nations that produce the most goods. As you know, the oil-producing nations have a firm grip on the world. Underdeveloped nations, the consuming nations, and even the nations that sell to the market cannot control the global economy.

In the near future, therefore, all these nations will be compelled to form a shared system. Once raw materials are managed jointly throughout the world, their production and sale will also be managed jointly. In the end, the future world economy will depend on forming shared institutions that will organize the distribution of needed resources to the people of the world.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 080-174, 1975/10/22)

“Nations are fighting among themselves, and democracy and communism are struggling with each other. What nations will control the global economy? It will not be the producing nations, the consuming nations, or even the nations with all the raw materials.

The time will come when the global economy will be controlled by an organization consisting of nations and religions, and inspired by a good philosophical system. It will run the global economy by managing, expanding and developing all the markets around the world. When such an organization emerges in the world in the future, who do you think will manage that organization? It will be institutions and people of vision, who can move history toward God's unchanging ideal.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 090-279, 1977/01/04)

Tourism & Hobby Business

“In the future, what we need to do is to start a tourism business that uses small boats to fish and carries goods. In order to develop the tourism industry, we will use the manufacturing technologies of small boats to eventually deploy small boats in major port towns around the world and hope to be able to guide tens of thousands of customers for sightseeing and fishing.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“In this way, let's connect the tourism industry and the hobby industry to the fishery industry, operate transport ships, and distribute the world's surplus food to poverty-stricken areas. That is why I developed a transportable, quality fish powder.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“I will connect the sites of the global tourism industry in order to create a world in which all people can harmonize with each other. If you can influence the people, you can influence the world. Therefore, instead of living within a small circle of relationships, you should become champions of the diplomatic world, relating with prominent people.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 2, 275-106, 1995.11.3)

“The hobby industry. It's a hobby industry. Do you understand? We go around the villages while bringing people on sightseeing trips, and distribute supplies while transporting them.

Then, what kind of development will be made? While entering the villages and distributing supplies, you will be able to interact with and connect with local households. We will develop a system that can supply fish all year round, regardless of the season.

That way, we can organize distribution stations in each region so that we can distribute fish to anyone. In this way, we can have interactions with local households. Do you understand?” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Distribute the surplus foods in the warehouses of the developed nations of the world to save those who are starving to death. If the marine industry and the transportation industry are promoted centering on small vessels in this way and we promote the tourism business, supplies will be available at any amount and can be used effectively. In this way, we can open the way for developed and developing countries to trade with each other. We will start a tourism business on a global scale.

What is called a hobby industry will be flourishing. Imagine that in the future, there will be no tourist destinations around the world where tourists will not experience the boats manufactured by the unification group. How can we create such a global organization?” ( “Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

A Global Network of Blessed Families

“Perhaps no one knows the world as much as the members of the Unification Church who travel around the world, and there is no country they don't know. You are trained that way.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

We can do it because we are connected with various countries through international marriage. You can enjoy your work and actually do community service work. Imagine that 100 families live in a poverty-stricken village in Africa and that relief supplies are shipped from 100 countries, such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

The inhabitants of the land will admire us and say, ‘Wow, how great the Unification Church is. It's doing what the world's great powers and the United States can't do. It's really trying to unite the world.’ Through your efforts, they will be truly grateful to God.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Unification Church men should live at every ocean port and coastal base in the world. If we can become a presence in these areas we will be in a position to influence and guide all the cultures of the world. Our men should all gather in coastal areas. We should live on every coastline of the world, and thus become a force there.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 116-326, 1982.1.2)

Topic 6

Plan for Food Production

(Editor’s Notes: The basic methods of True Parents to solve the global food problem were to create a global network of food production, food distribution, and education. True Parents wished to develop a global food production network including fishing, hunting, agriculture, aquaculture, and others. South America was an important part of this plan.)

“The first is to provide ample supplies of food at low cost”

“Simply distributing food supplies by itself will not resolve hunger, though. A more fundamental approach to the problem is needed. I am considering two fundamental and concrete methods.

The first is to provide ample supplies of food at low cost, and the second is to share technology that people can use to overcome hunger on their own.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Ch. 7 “Solution to Poverty and Hunger”)

“In the future world, it will be necessary to industrially develop the resources of the world's oceans. I have already created a variety of enterprises that embrace all aspects of the fishing industry ranging from the manufacture of large scale fishing boats to the construction of fish hatcheries and farms. In the future, the sea will supply food to many of the world's people. Naturally, the development and cultivation of the sea will truly become a preferred method for bringing an end to the starvation that plagues humankind.” (The Pacific Rim Providence Chapter 1, 193-324, 1989.10)

Fishery, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Ranches, & Fish Powder

“If you breed fish, tens of thousands of households can eat from a single lake. All of the family members can eat by fishing on the lake.” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Aquaculture can be expanded anywhere. The number of fish that live in the sea is infinite. There is a limit to the land, but there is no limit to the sea. We will cultivate the resources of the sea and, thanks to us, lay the foundation for people all over the world to eat. Don't you think it's a project that I should be interested in?” (“Development of the Oceanic Realm” speech on August 1. 1994)

“Once we have four hundred kilometers of land in Jardim, I will build a fish powder factory. France, Italy, Germany, America, Japan and other advanced nations conducted studies on this source of food, but they failed to accomplish what we were successful in developing. The entire world will make fish powder and pave the way for distributing food. Since transportation is the problem, we are telling the UN and the Red Cross, ‘Together let’s save the afflicted people of the world!’ In the farming area, within the four hundred kilometer area of Jardim, I have planted beans, corn, manioc and other crops. Everything harvested from there is made into powder, and then I will increase the amount twenty times to save the afflicted people.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 276-194, 1996.2.19)

“Why are we building a ranch and farm in Uruguay? Brazil and Uruguay have an abundance of resources that can sustain a self-sufficient ranch and farm. We can distribute calves, lambs and the young from other animals to 160 nations, where people can raise them and also become self-sufficient. If you give them money, it will soon be gone, but if you give them calves, they will multiply continuously. Doing this will overcome one obstacle to global prosperity.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 266-140,1994/12/22)

“In places like Peru, a limitless number of sardines can be caught. We told the people who catch sardines that we will make sardine powder. All the conditions are favoring us. Heaven is allowing for all this to take place. But there is almost no one who can embrace this breakthrough and celebrate it. In order to return to the ocean, we need to take interest in the fisheries business. To prepare for this, we plan to settle in the Pantanal with Leda at the center and carry out this work through the Japanese people. Realizing that conservation is the most important task in the Amazon region, we must take measures to prevent pollution as we develop business enterprises that can solve the problem of food shortages.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 326-281, 2000/07/15)

“About 20 percent of the world’s fish catch is thrown out. Whenever I see this, I think of the people who are dying of hunger, and I feel pain. Fish is a much more reliable source of protein than beef. How wonderful it would be if we made fish cakes or fish sausages to give to people in impoverished lands!

Once this thought came to me, I started projects to process and store large volumes of fish. It does not do any good to catch large amounts of fish if you cannot handle them properly after the catch. Even the best fish cannot be kept well for more than eight months. Even if they are frozen and placed in refrigeration, air gets in through cracks in the ice, and water escapes. You could pour water on the fish and freeze them again, but by then the best flavor is already gone and the fish might as well be thrown out.

We gathered fish that were being thrown out and researched how to turn it into fish powder. We sought to do something that even advanced countries like France and Germany have not done. Fish turned into powder could be transported and stored easily, even in hot and humid climates. Fish powder is 98-percent protein, among the very highest protein content of all food products. For this reason it can be used to save people from dying of hunger. Fish powder could also be used to make bread. We are still searching for ways to make it available to impoverished countries around the world.

The oceans contain limitless food supplies, but the best method for saving humanity from the food crisis is fish farming. I foresee that there will be buildings, similar to the skyscrapers we see in our cities today, devoted to fish farming. By using water pipe systems, we can farm fish in tall buildings or even on the tops of mountains. With fish farming we can produce more than enough food to feed all the world’s people.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“Only in South America”

“Famine is one of the most serious problems we face in the world today. Hence, it is urgent for us to secure food. The solution cannot even be found in the United States, only in South America. Here in South America, all you need is a hectare of land somewhere and you can plant crops. If you clear a hectare of land and plant crops on it, no one says anything. If you travel along the borders between countries, you will find a lot of empty, idle land. If you cultivate that land, you will not starve. But after that comes an environmental issue. That is why I encourage fish farming. We just cannot get enough quality protein from the food on land. For this reason, I am strongly promoting fish farming, and eating fish rather than meat.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2, 281-092, 1997/01/02)

Uruguay & Krill (Small Shrimp) Fishing Providence

“We have to grind the krill we catch into powder. Ordinarily it is difficult to do this, and hence krill is only sold as an expensive health product. However, we will mass produce krill powder and deliver it at a minimal cost. The only reason we are doing this is to serve humanity. If all four of our ships catch krill and are operating at optimum capacity, we can make a great impact on the problem of world hunger. We can produce enough fish powder to help half the world's starving people.

People in the third world and in developing nations already know I am doing these things for them. I have already invested a huge amount of money into research and development. We have now concluded all our experiments. To manufacture fish powder, we assembled a main factory in Uruguay and additional auxiliary facilities.

Our missions in 185 nations will cooperate with each national government, and with the help of the state's power the way will open to distribute and sell the krill powder. Because our purpose is to help the people of the world who are suffering from malnutrition, governments will support us. Once we can import the fish powder through our movement's networks, we will create a market to sell it in cooperation with the government of each nation.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 5, Section 4, 291-121, 1998/03/05)

180 Bases connecting Amazon, Pantanal, & Uruguay

“I want to build a refrigeration company here in the Pantanal, so that the fish caught here by the local people can be sold throughout the world. To do this, we need refrigerated containers. Since there are companies that rent refrigerated storage containers, it might be good, at least at the beginning, to rent and use these containers. We are trying to make 180 bases, and the Japanese people are organizing that at the Leda farm.

We can rent the refrigerated containers, freeze and store the fish in them, and then sell them. The challenge will be preserving the freshness of the fish. If we can create a method for this in the Pantanal, there will be no problem pioneering it on the world market.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 387-186, 2002/07/22)

“Let us make this impoverished city into a new city, one whose culture is in harmony with nature. It takes six hours to get from Leda to the Victoria Plaza Hotel, and I will connect them. I told the Japanese national messiahs to build a plaza, a hospital, schools and a multipurpose center instead of a sports center at the village, where 19 clans of the native peoples, Indios, are living. I also told them to buy land.

As part of those preparations, we established numerous operational bases two hours away from each other. In addition, 182 information booths will be set up, one every 50 kilometers along the Paraguay and Amazon Rivers. The Japanese should set up the booths and guide the tours. Therefore, when people come looking for this place, I, as the owner, will have erected the pillar of the new family education. Since we have gone through these things, you need to realize that this is not just someone else's responsibility; it is our responsibility. As you tour that region, you should always shed tears as you think about the extensive groundwork that True Parents initiated to overcome the obstacles.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 407-176, 2003/05/15)

Topic 7

Plan for Education of Self-Sufficiency

(Editor’s Notes: True Father thought that distributing food is not enough to solve the food problem. He thought that we need to eventually educate all starving people so that they can be self-sufficient to feed themselves. He wished that Jardim and Leda to become an education center to teach people how to produce food.)

“The second is to share technology”

“Simply distributing food supplies by itself will not resolve hunger, though. A more fundamental approach to the problem is needed. I am considering two fundamental and concrete methods.

The first is to provide ample supplies of food at low cost, and the second is to share technology that people can use to overcome hunger on their own.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“To solve the problem of hunger we must have a heart that is willing to plant seeds. Seeds are planted and wait unseen under the soil until they are able to germinate and break through their outer cover. Similarly, it is better to teach a person how to plant and harvest wheat and then turn it into bread than it is to give a piece of bread to a person who is about to die. The former may be more difficult and not result in as much public recognition, but it is the only way to arrive at a fundamental and sustainable solution to world hunger. We need to begin now to study the climate, the soil, and the character of the people in areas that suffer from hunger.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“It is as important to teach the skills needed to become self-sufficient in producing food as it is to distribute food directly to those in need. To teach such skills, we need to build schools in remote areas to combat illiteracy. Technical schools will need to be established in order to give people the ability to support themselves. The Westerners who conquered Africa and South America did not provide technology to the people who were already there. They only used the people as laborers as they sought to dig up and take away the resources that were buried in the ground. They did not teach the people how to farm or how to operate a factory. This was not right. Our church has, from the early stage of our foreign mission work, established schools in places such as Zaire for teaching agriculture and industrial technology.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

“Where the world’s people can be educated”

“God first created the environment. Therefore, when we as the Unification Church go out to witness, we also must first create the environment. I have come to South America for that reason, to create the environment. We are planning an ideal model farmland, forest and fishery. In order to accommodate people who work there, we will build houses on this one-million-square-foot piece of land.

This should serve as an example to all Unification Church members. You must work wherever you go, whether in Africa or anywhere else. Where there is water, you have to build a fish farm. Where there is land, you have to plant trees. The world is facing problems concerning oxygen. If the trees in the Amazon Basin are cut down, Europe will face a serious oxygen shortage. Therefore, Europe is trying to restrict the cutting down of trees. Brazil wants to develop the Amazon Basin and is asking Europe for compensation. This is the situation. Therefore, the time has come to plant trees on every bare piece of land. We need to cultivate forests.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 281-067, 1997/01/02)

“I told the Japanese national messiahs to quickly pioneer the farms in Puerto Leda, Paraguay. The Eve nation has the responsibility to at least set up a farm as a model where the world's people can be educated.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 321-254, 2000/04/24)

“You Unificationists must fulfill your responsibility to lead them and care for these people. You should go to the developing nations and become instructors and teachers at kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and universities. You should improve standards by teaching them the most modern agricultural methods. This is how you can save people who would otherwise starve to death. They first need to know how to fish effectively; this is why I sent four boats each to 160 nations. You are thinking, "What's the use of doing that?" because your hearts and minds are not enlightened. But I am telling you we must do it.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 2,  444-191, 2004/04/04)

“The education plan for Jardim is…”

“The education plan for Jardim is to teach about the marine products industry, forestry, farming, and also about manufacturing. Since I know the overall details for this, I am having each city function as a headquarters. I am thinking of expanding the same model that was built in Jardim to create a university, centering on colleges based on that system.” (Pacific Rim Providence Chapter 1, 281-297, 1997.3.9)

“New Hope Farms is in Brazil, but it does not belong only to the people of Brazil. Anyone who is hungry can go to New Hope Farms, work, and be fed. Some two thousand people from all races and from all over the world can always eat and sleep there. We will establish schools all the way from elementary school to university. People will be taught how to farm and how to raise cattle. We will also teach how to plant and raise trees and how to catch, process, and sell fish. We do not have only a farm. We use the numerous lakes in the vicinity of the river to create fish farms and fishing grounds.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

Unity & Peace through Equalization

(Editor’s Notes: How is unity possible? Just as Jacob gave everything to Esau, unity through natural subjugation can only occur when we truely live for the sake of the less fortunate. The world is divided into rich and poor, but eventually, we must establish a world of equality were all humanity stands as brothers and sisters in front of Heavenly Parents.)

Nature of Water & Love: Equalization

“Why does water flow? It flows because it is not level. When water flows, it searches for the horizon. Water must go to the ocean. It must seek the horizon.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 263-91, 1994.8.21)

“Water must always be level. That is its characteristic. No matter how strong the wave, the ocean maintains a horizon. When you see the horizon, you want to tumble over it. You think, “Hey, I want to roll over it!” Since your body cannot do so, then you do this with a boat. Have you ever thought about that? Whatever you do on a horizon, even if you fall down, your head or hand will not be the first to be hit. You will hit it horizontally. That is possible with a horizon. Human beings need a horizontal line.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 263-90, 1994.8.21)

“Air and water are just like love. If there is a vacuum, the air in the world will be mobilized to fill it up. If there were a puddle, the ocean water would rush in to make it even. Air, water, and love always maintain their level.” (Pacific Rim Providence, Chapter 1, 264-316, 1994.11.20)

“What are we doing in Jardim? The blessed families have arisen on the vertical standard, but they have not been able to define themselves on the horizontal plane. Therefore, we must now establish the family that can live with God on the horizontal plane.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 294-319, 1998/08/09)

Interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values

“Democracies of two types arose with the purpose of dismantling absolute monarchy and transferring sovereignty to the people. Likewise, movements to further the ideals of interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values arose on God's side, while communism was born on Satan's side, in order to demolish economic systems which concentrated a society's wealth in the hands of a privileged few. Each of these movements has sought to establish a system which would distribute wealth more equally among people.” (The Exposition of Divine Principle, Part II, Chapter 4, 7.2.7)

Unification of North & South America

“Now, if North America and South America can become one through my efforts, then North Korea and South Korea on the Korean Peninsula can unify and Israel and the Muslim world can unite. The unity of Europe will not be a problem either. This will happen all at once.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 266-134, 1994/12/22)

“The prevailing culture derives from Christianity, and the leader in transforming modern society is North America. South America has opposed North America until now. If these two continents were to become one, they would form a great power base. If this were to happen, Europe, North America and South America, and then Asia would naturally join the Christian cultural realm. That is why I must unite the cultural realm of Christianity in North America and South America and then connect it to Asia. I need to unite Asia with North America and South America. Without doing this there is no future.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 268- 311, 1995/04/03)

“How can they be resolved?”

“The issues that remain to be resolved during this century are the cultural gap between the East and the West, and the gap between the haves and have-nots in the North and the South. How can they be resolved? It is through my teaching of ‘living for the sake of others.’ The philosophy of living for your own sake belongs to the fallen world; the philosophy of living for the sake of others belongs to the heavenly world. Wealthy North America should live for the sake of its younger sibling, Latin America. North America should willingly sell its assets to help its younger sibling prosper. Only after North America helps Latin America to prosper at least as much as it does, if not more, should it invest for its own people. That is how both North America and South America will become places where God's ideal will eternally reside.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, 179-171, 1988/08/01)

Unity of North & South America through Equalization

“We must carry out a movement to achieve a leveling in the spheres of ideals, technology, economic resources and access to information. Up until now, a handful of people in the developed nations sat back and virtually did as they pleased, oblivious to the impact upon the lives of people in the developing countries. I will not allow this. I have a responsibility to protect all the people of this world, and I have to create the foundation upon which I can fulfill this responsibility. I have worked to expand this foundation regardless of the adversity I have faced. Despite bitter opposition, I have built a sizable foundation during my lifetime.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 145-120, 1986/04/30)

“You cannot imagine what a threat my plan to equalize technology around the world is to developed nations. If a country like the United States pursued the equalization of technology, it would have to share its technology with South America.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 1, 180-258, 1988/08/22)

“Yet, to this day, some countries in Europe still continue to exploit Africa and implement policies to perpetually enslave the nations there. Likewise, the United States implements policies putting South America under its control. I am trying to do away with all of this.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10 Chapter 1, 225-291, 1992/01/26)

“North America must stand in the position of Abel and save South America, which is in the position of Cain. For this to take place, everything must be invested. If the people of the United States adopt my mentality and invest their lives and resources for the sake of South America, saving South America will not be a problem.

This situation is similar to an area of high atmospheric pressure seeking out an area of low atmospheric pressure. The United States, which is an area of high pressure, can save South America. The people of the United States may be tempted to say, ‘We do not need South America, it is too poor.’ Nonetheless, we need to invest everything for the sake of South America.

The members of the Unification Church are called to do this. A path to connect to the True Family can be made only by becoming one with South America, which inherited the authority of the elder son. There is no path to enter the true kingdom of heaven on earth if you are not connected to the True Family.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 269- 153, 1995/04/17)

“North American people need to go to South America to receive training, and South American people need to go to North America to receive training. Although they speak different languages, they will eventually become one.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10 Chapter 3, 271-287, 1995/08/28)

“This will bring about a leveling of wealth”

“The International Peace Highway will rearrange the current inequality by creating access to existing natural and human resources. This will bring about a leveling of wealth. Leveling means that a little is taken off places that are high and added to places that are low. As a result, the two have the same height. This will require sacrifice from those with greater material possessions or knowledge. Building a world of peace cannot be done with one-time charitable acts or donations. Only sincere love and continuous sacrifice is capable of creating a world of peace. We must be willing to offer everything.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Chapter 8)

“I plan to make a central bank in South America. I will create it after conferring with the presidents of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. We have a bank in Uruguay, and the Bank of Paraguay is offering us shares. Argentina also is ready to do this. In this way, we will establish branches of the bank in these four nations, connecting the best bankers in South America to establish a central bank. We will make a bank that is bigger than the banks of any one nation and establish it as a credit union in order to promote the distribution of capital. That is why we are getting into this business.” (Chambumo Gyeong Book 10, Chapter 3, 282-201, 1997/03/12)

Training Future Leaders

Topic 8

Course of Leadership Training

“The ocean has everything to do with the future. Don't you know that? You have to become interested in the ocean or otherwise you will just disappear into history. In the future, the qualification for leadership will be to know about the ocean.

The basic knowledge will be how to handle a boat. To know about the ocean and to be able to go upon it will become the two basic qualifications for leadership in the future.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 3, August 28th, 1982)

“The future leaders of the world must understand how to keep and preserve the oceans. The time is coming when humankind will invest and devote all its power, cultural identity, traditions, and national resources into developing the riches and treasures that lie at the bottom of the sea. However, the key point is who will be in a commanding position in the ocean areas to pursue that development.” (Pacific Rim Providence Chapter 1, 220-11, 1991.10.13)

“God is looking for…”

“Actually God is looking for a group of people who are organized and committed to meeting that challenge of the ocean. If such a committed group of ocean-loving people can be found, God will give the blessing to them. Those people finally become candidates for lordship over the ocean. They must be thinking with the Creator's mind.

As such courageous people from around the world come together and unite in one common goal, one ideal, that vision must transcend all national and racial boundaries. Once such an international group is set up, it will be very difficult for any single nation to challenge it, for it will truly have a global perspective.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 14, August 28th, 1983)

“There will be young people in the future who will…”

“Am I crazy? I don't think so. You think so, don't you? Sometimes? I understand. Anyway, let's understand this much; if I don't go to the spiritual world too soon, this venture will be successful. There is no doubt about that. What will you do if I go to the spiritual world tomorrow? Will you give up? You are very strong, very firm and even heaven hears your ‘No!’ However, even if you give up what I am saying to you today, there will be young people in the future who will risk their own life to achieve this idea. Once I have touched this industry, then it shall never perish.” (God’s Will ane the Ocean Chapter 3, August 28th, 1982)

Basic Course of Leaders

“I designed the basic route for the core of our movement who come through the Seminary at Barrytown. After graduation, they should first go to CARP and train on the campus. Then, automatically they should come to Ocean Church. That is the plan for educating the leadership of our movement: from UTS to CARP to Ocean Church. After that kind of well rounded training, the seminarian should go on to state leadership. Every state must have that kind of leader.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 4, September 5th, 1982)

“Anyone who wants to qualify in the future for state leadership must first qualify for leadership in CARP and Ocean Church.

The movement is growing beyond the level of the present state leadership. So far, no matter how clear and creative the directions were, they have not been digested and accepted. The message dwindled with each step, from the leadership to the members, until it no longer made sense when it got to the members.

However, the leader who moves from CARP to Ocean Church and then to state leadership can understand and respond to my direction. They will be like a special task force, ready to respond and go whenever they hear new directions.”  (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 4, September 5th, 1982)

The formula course for Unification members has been that for three and one-half years you fund raise as basic training. The economic foundation represents creation and this restores your relationship with all things. This should be changed to two years of fund raising and eighteen months of ocean duty.” (God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 3, August 28th, 1982)

CARP & Ocean Church

“What shall our education center upon? Tradition. And what is that tradition? That tradition will include CARP tradition, Ocean Church tradition and state leadership tradition. We will educate members to become well rounded and capable to take care of others in any situation.

Why am I interested in that kind of organization? There are three categories into which people fit in this country: those who live inland; those who live on the coast; and those who are young, the next generation. The young generation includes high school and college students. Thus we need to have both a campus (CARP) and a high school (HARP) movement.

It's not possible to deal with those who are old minded, who are so set in their way of life that they don't want to move and change. We have to pioneer a new world with young people who look to the future and are excited by adventure. Young people are the most creative and productive group in the world. However, there is division there. There are those who are serious and those who are turning to free sex, drugs and all kinds of self indulgence.

We are dedicated to creating young people who are morally clear. We have to clean them up and challenge them and channel their resources. That is CARP's mission.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 4,  September 5th, 1982)

“Since CARP and Ocean Church are growing up side by side, they should work together. They should have a spirit of cooperation. CARP members can ask their college student friends to come with them to their boat and this will create a great deal of interest in the more adventurous students. Then, Ocean Church members can take the students out and teach them about our vision for the future. College students will be very excited by this kind of program and plan.

The inland movement should be linked to the coastal movement. That is CARP and Ocean Church. Most college students are inland, but through Ocean Church, they can be introduced to a whole new horizon. We have the system and the program, the plan and the vision. So, why not? We can go to the college campus and form a club. We can let them be responsible for a boat in the same way that I've already outlined. We can just say, ‘You can have them!’ All they have to do is get ten people and form a club. Many students would work day in and day out to use such a boat.” (God’s Will and the Ocean Chapter 4,  September 5th, 1982)

To become Global Leaders

“It is difficult to find young people today who are passionate about their lives. We find so many young people who, with no goal or purpose for their life, are just wandering around.

All great leaders in history had a definite sense of purpose in life from the time they were children. From childhood they nurtured that purpose held within their hearts and exerted great energy to achieve it. Whether they were sleeping or playing with their friends, every youthful action of these great leaders was geared toward preparing for the stage that they would stand on in the future. Is that how you are living your life?” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 8)

“There is, however, something more important than studying to prepare for the future. Before unconditionally focusing entirely on studies, young people must realize what they want to do in life. They must make a determination to use their talents to help the world rather than just serve themselves. Many young people today seem to be studying just for its own sake. Unless you have a purpose in life, your studies will lack the passion needed for happiness.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 8)

“A true global leader is someone who is able to embrace the world in his own bosom. A person who has no interest in the problems of the world cannot become a global leader, no matter how well he might communicate in English.

To be a global leader a person must think of the world’s problems as his own and have the pioneering spirit that is needed for finding difficult solutions. A person who is attached to a secure and fixed income, or dreams of having a pension after retirement and a comfortable family life, cannot be a global leader.

To become a global leader a person must consider the whole world to be his country and all humanity to be his brothers and sisters and not be overly concerned that he does not know what the future may hold for him.

What are siblings? Why did God give us siblings? Siblings symbolize human beings around the world. The experience of loving our brothers and sisters in the family teaches us how to love our fellow countrymen and love humanity. Our love for our own siblings expands in this way. The family whose members love each other is a model of how humanity can live together in harmony. Love among siblings means that one sibling is willing to go hungry, if necessary, so that his brother or sister can eat. A global leader is someone who loves humanity as he loves his own family.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 8)

True Parents’ Example of Paraguay Chaco

“Paraguay’s Chaco region occupies 60 percent of that country’s territory, but it has been a neglected land. The Chaco region was formed when the sea rose to cover the land, and even now you get salty water gushing up when you dig into the ground. I was in my seventies when I first went to Paraguay. The lives of the people living in this longneglected land were impoverished beyond words. It caused me great pain in my heart to see them. I sincerely wanted to help them, but they were not prepared to accept me, a person of a different skin color who spoke a different language. I did not give up, however.

I traveled the Paraguay River for three months, eating and sleeping with people from the area. At more than seventy years of age, I was taking on a task that people said was impossible. I taught the people I met what I know about fishing, and they taught me their language. We were on the boat like this together for three months and became friends.

Once they began to open their hearts, I talked to them again and again about why the world must become one. At first their reaction was indifferent. Year by year, though, the people of Chaco began to change. After ten years, they changed so much that they held a global peace festival with great enthusiasm.

Resolving the food situation does not mean that peace will follow immediately. After the hunger issue has been resolved, it is important to carry out educational programs on peace and love. I have built many schools in places such as Jardim and Chaco. At first people didn’t send their children to school but instead had them help raise their cattle. We worked hard to convince them that the children and young people needed an education. As a result, we now have many students. We built a light industrial factory where they could produce items using simple technologies, and the students became more interested in attending school so they could work in the factory.

We are all responsible for the people around the world who die of hunger. We need to take action to help them. We need to feel a clear sense of responsibility and find a way that they can be fed and saved. People who live well should come down to a slightly lower position and raise up those who live poorly, to bring about a world where all people live well.” (As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen, Chapter 7)

Mother Moon's Words on Ocean

"He often spent entire nights in a small fishing boat on rough seas"

Up to four or five years before his ascension in 2012, he was in continual motion, living each day as if it were a thousand years. His work was strenuous, both physically and spiritually. For example, he often spent entire nights in a small fishing boat on rough seas. He did this for the sake of others, setting an example for our Ocean Church members as well as leaders who accompanied him. He wanted to help them cultivate patience and the spirit to overcome hardship. (Mother of Peace, p.19)

"Like a hidden treasure"

All people hope that we can recover and sustain the oceans as the Heavenly Parent created them. Covering 70 percent of the Earth, the oceans contain immense resources. Like a hidden treasure, they hold solutions for the dilemmas confronting the human race. I have emphasized the importance of the ocean on many occasions and have, together with my husband, suggested various approaches we might take. Accordingly, “The Ocean” was chosen as the theme for the first Sunhak Peace Prize. (Mother of Peace p.28)

"Our vision"

For decades, my husband and I took on the task of ensuring that humanity moves into a future assured of abundant food supplies and pleasant, healthy environments. We advocated the free exchange of technology across national borders, and shared our vision that the oceans are a gift from God and the ultimate source of the world’s nutrition. Stable food sources and pure air, land and water are essential to world peace and the salvation of humankind. (Mother of Peace p.28)

"Like the ocean"

I am called to be like the ocean that accepts and absorbs the water of all rivers, big and small alike. Embodying our God who is our Heavenly Mother as well as Heavenly Father, I am called to embrace all who are lost and have no one to receive them, with the heart of a parent. (Mother of Peace, p.93)

The best training is on the ocean

"I dearly love the sea, as God’s deep will can be found within it"

A small stream ran behind my hometown, the village of Anju. Except in the middle of winter, when everything was frozen solid, the trickling sound of running water could always be heard. I became friends with that water and learned many truths from it. Water always flows from above to below. Water embraces everything; it changes its shape to fit whatever contours it meets. In addition, water has duality. It can be peaceful and romantic when still, but if it becomes angry, it can swallow everything in an instant. That’s why the sea can be frightening. I dearly love the sea, as God’s deep will can be found within it. My husband also loved the water. Even during our busy schedules, we would find ways to visit a river or the sea. We didn’t go solely to admire the scenic beauty or enjoy a leisurely fishing trip. We rode rough waves to tell the people of the world that humanity’s future is found in the sea. (Mother of Peace p.225)

"The sea would reward me with a clarity of purpose and the heart to embrace others"

In the United States, the waters off the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts, are famous for tuna fishing. In the 1980s, for weeks on end, my husband and I would board the New Hope before dawn, go out into seas that even experienced sailors feared, and wrestle with tuna so huge they dwarfed the adults onboard. To catch a 1,000-pound tuna, I went far into the ocean, sometimes suffering all day long from the massive waves. Entrusting one’s body to the deep blue ocean and riding its waves is self-mortification like no other.

My husband and I took great pains to offer sincere devotions at such times. Having found the road to the salvation of humankind and world peace, we have endured a severe lifestyle. During those times of difficulty, the sea would reward me with a clarity of purpose and the heart to embrace others. It gave me the energy I needed to continue on.

“Go out to sea. On the sea, you will discover what God wants to teach you.”

We often took young members with us to fish on the high seas in Good-Go boats that my husband had a part in designing. We wanted to raise them to become leaders who could work anywhere. When we stayed in Kodiak, Alaska, young people from around the world came to receive our teaching. I did not lecture or preach to them. I only offered the advice, “Go out to sea. On the sea, you will discover what God wants to teach you.”

A typical fishing day began with young people rising in the small hours of the morning, donning knee-high rubber boots and sailing with us into the distant sea amid an icy wind. When we reached a point in the vast ocean with nothing but water in sight, we would begin the struggle to catch salmon or halibut. Halibut, a flatfish, live on their bellies deep on the ocean floor. I once hooked a halibut off Kodiak that weighed over 90 kilograms (200 pounds). Seeing such a large fish flapping wildly on the deck is unforgettable. It makes such a noise! The fish was so gigantic that if you held it upright, you could hide three women behind it.

"Even on days when I did not catch a single fish"

When we got back to shore late that night, completely exhausted and as withered as green onion kimchi, I was still full of joy. On days like that, and even on days when I did not catch a single fish, I learned about perseverance, the laws of nature and overcoming the challenge of rough seas. I call this the Spirit of Alaska.

"If young people want to think big, they should go out to sea"

If young people want to think big, they should go out to sea. It’s easy to follow a set path on land, but not at sea. In just a few hours, a sea that had been like a calm lake can turn into a roller-coaster ride on ferocious waves. Young people who train themselves on top of these waves can achieve great dreams.

Fish Powder

Besides Gloucester and Kodiak, we chose the Amazon and Paraguay Rivers of Latin America, Hawaii in the United States and Yeosu in Korea as the centers for the ocean providence. In addition to training young people, we invested heavily in projects tied to the rivers and the oceans. One project in Uruguay was to create a high-protein powder from the abundant krill shrimp. When mixed with other nutritious foods, it can introduce valuable nutrients into people’s diets in times of food shortage.

"Support the development of a unified Korean Peninsula"

At the beginning of the year 2000, we wanted to create something beautiful in Yeosu, a small city on the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula known for its clear waters. In the Soho district in Yeosu, we built the Ocean Resort Hotel, where people from around the world can experience the beauty of land and ocean. We envisioned Yeosu advancing Korea’s marine leisure industry. It can anchor an economic pipeline that connects to the continent. This in turn can support the development of a unified Korean Peninsula.

"We need to teach its people how to fish and create fish farms"

There is a Western saying: “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. But if you teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” If you can fish, you will never go hungry. Africa has many rivers, lakes and oceans. Therefore, we need to teach its people how to fish and create fish farms. My husband and I have long been involved in projects like this.

"When the two meet, our future will change."

The ocean is brilliant and pure. Our youth are also brilliant and pure. When the two meet, our future will change. Just as I have done, our youth should roll up their sleeves and bravely take on the ocean. It is not only where one can cultivate a strong mind and body, but where we can create the future of humankind. The ocean is much larger than the land. Buried in its depths lie undiscovered treasures. Whoever pioneers the ocean will lead the world. (Mother of Peace p.227)

“This has to be done. For the future, someone has to do it. You are my hope. If you don't know that, you cannot understand even who you are. The one who is close to me is the one who will determine to be successful on the ocean.”

(God’s Will and the Ocean, Chapter 6, July 3rd, 1983  Gloucester)
